Two arrested after Chippewa Co. vehicle pursuit
MONTEVIDEO — Two people were arrested Tuesday after a police pursuit that started in Montevideo and ended in Lac qui Parle County, the Montevideo Police Department said. Ten different law enforcement agencies were involved in the pursuit, which ended in a cornfield in Lac qui Parle County.
Montevideo Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Police said in a news release. One of the people in the vehicle had an active felony warrant, Police said. When the vehicle refused to stop for law enforcement, a pursuit started, Police said.
The pursuit went through Chippewa County and entered Lac qui Parle County, Police said. The fleeing vehicle went into a field, where it caught fire to corn stalks, Police said. Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle were arrested and transported to the Chippewa and Yellow Medicine County jails.
Montevideo Police were assisted by agencies including the Minnesota State Patrol, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, Granite Falls Police, the Cee-VI Task Force, Dawson-Boyd Police, the Lac qui Parle County Sheriff’s Office, Benson Police, the Swift County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota DNR and the Milan Fire Department.
