Hwy 59 concrete repair starts July 8
Detours planned in Marshall, near Garvin
MARSHALL — Construction work on U.S. Highway 59 near Marshall and Garvin is planned to start soon. The Minnesota Department of Transportation said Friday that concrete repairs on Highway 59 south of Marshall will start July 8, and will include a detour.
The concrete repair work will happen in two segments. Later this summer, a second detour will be put in place when work starts south of Garvin.
The $4.4 million project will repair the concrete on the highway surface, as well as upgrading some sidewalks and pedestrian crossings in Marshall, MnDOT said in a news release. The segment of construction near Marshall will affect Highway 59 from the intersection with Minnesota Highway 23 within city limits, to the intersection of Lyon County Road 6 south of Marshall.
Construction on the Marshall segment is planned to take about five weeks, MnDOT said. Traffic on Highway 59 will be detoured onto Highway 23, South Saratoga Street and Lyon County Road 6. However, businesses along the project route will be accessible, MnDOT said.
The second section of the project will affect Highway 59 from Lyon County Road 14 to 201st Street in Murray County. Traffic will be detoured onto U.S. Highway 14, Lyon County Road 5/Murray County Road 29, and Murray County Road 48. Construction is planned to take about seven weeks to complete, MnDOT said.
MnDOT cautioned drivers that the construction work on both sections of Highway 59 may overlap. This means that both detours could be in place at the same time, for up to five days.
The project is expected to end Oct. 18, depending on weather and other circumstances, MnDOT said.
