Crazy Days heats up under the sunshine
More vendors, shoppers show up downtown celebration

MARSHALL — People were getting an early start on their Crazy Days shopping this year.
“We’ve pretty much been busy since 7 a.m.,” said Kenzie Goodmund, who was running the Mid-West Boutique stand on Main Street. At one point earlier in the day, the line at the stand got pretty long, one visitor said.
“It’s been really good,” Goodmund said of Crazy Days. “It’s nice to see, especially with the economy right now.”
Shoppers and vendors said good weather and a bigger variety of food and deals all helped draw people out to Thursday’s event.
“We are very happy with the turnout,” said Mavi Valentin, events coordinator with the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce. She said this year’s Crazy Days had 39 vendors and food vendors — double the number from last year.
Crazy Days also coincided with the return of Thursdays on Third. Live music, food and farmer’s market vendors were among the attractions on North Third Street in the evening.
Early in the morning, people filled the store at Bot Appliance, Furniture & More, said owner Terry Haas. While Bot didn’t stay packed the whole day, there was a pretty steady crowd, he said. Things would pick up every so often, as events like the Kiddie Parade and a candy drop went on.
It being a nice day outside made a big difference for bringing people out to Crazy Days, he said.
“We finally had the sunshine,” he said.
Plus, Haas said, “I think it helps to have food vendors.” A variety of food trucks and vendor stands were spread out along Main Street and North Third Street.
Shoppers weren’t only grabbing lunch — they were also checking out the treats offered by some area vendors. By Thursday afternoon, the baked goods Stacey Vue was selling were going fast.
“It’s been fun, everyone’s been great,” Vue said. Vue brought her business, Stacey’s Bakery, to Crazy Days. She said some of the popular items that day included treats with Asian-inspired flavors, as well as classic cookies. “Kids love M&M cookies.”
Shoppers at Crazy Days said it was a good day to get out and enjoy the event.
“The weather has been perfect,” said Kristen Doughty. “And it’s nice to support all the small businesses.”
