DeCramer reappointed to MN Housing Finance Authority

MARSHALL — A Marshall resident and former city council member has been reappointed for a third term on the Minnesota Housing Finance Authority board. On Friday, Gov. Tim Walz’s office announced that John DeCramer was one of two members reappointed to the board. DeCramer’s new term is effective July 3, and expires Jan. 3, 2028.

“I was glad to get reappointed. They do a lot of good work,” DeCramer said of the Housing Finance Authority.

DeCramer was appointed to the Housing Finance Authority board in 2015 by Gov. Mark Dayton. He was reappointed by Walz in 2020.

The Minnesota Housing Finance Authority finances affordable housing for low and moderate-income Minnesotans. The agency also works with other groups support the development and preservation of affordable rental housing.

Decramer said the agency administrates more than 50 housing-related programs. Some of the programs included on the Minnesota Housing website are tax credit programs for developing mutifamily housing, as well as programs to help Minnesotans improve, buy or refinance homes.

“There’s a lot of housing need out there,” DeCramer said. It underscored the importance of the agency’s work in financing housing in Minnesota. He said the Housing Finance Authority tries to spread out its support for housing development around the state. However, he said, for every project that is financed, there’s still more need.

DeCramer said his experiences on the board have been positive.

“It’s a very interesting commission to work with, and some very dedicated people,” he said.
