Anderson wins in Lyon Co. Commissioner District 5
MARSHALL — Lyon County Commissioner Rick Anderson won re-election Tuesday in a contested race.
According to unofficial vote totals, Anderson came out ahead in a close race against challenger Tom Chandler. Anderson received about 53% of the vote in Commissioner District 5, with 1,263 votes. Chandler received 1,134 votes.
Commissioner District 5 covers the southern half of Lyon County.
The District 5 race was the only Lyon County commissioner race that was contested this year. Commissioners Todd Draper and Gary Crowley, who were both running unopposed, were re-elected in Commissioner Districts 2 and 4, respectively. District 2 includes part of the city of Marshall, and District 4 covers the northern half of Lyon County.
“I figured this was going to be a close race,” Anderson said of Tuesday’s election. “As an incumbent, you don’t take anything for granted.” He said he and Chandler were both candidates who would have represented District 5 well, and had similar views on some issues.
“I will work really hard for the next four years,” Anderson said. He said he wanted to be involved with the conversations about energy developments going on in the county in the near future, including a new Xcel Energy transmission line, and planned solar and wind projects in Lyon County.
Anderson said issues like addressing broadband service and child care needs in the county were also priorities.
