Granite Falls man sentenced for sexual assault

This week, a Granite Falls man received a prison sentence for holding a St. Catherine University student captive and sexually assaulting her. Ramsey County District Court records said Keanu Avery Labatte, 20, was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison for second degree criminal sexual conduct.

Labatte pleaded guilty to the second degree criminal sexual conduct charge in July. Criminal charges said a St. Catherine student reported Labatte held her in her dorm room against her will for three days in September 2023. The charges said Labatte assaulted and threatened the woman, and waterboarded her by covering her face with a wet washcloth. The woman was able to contact law enforcement when Labatte allowed her to go to the cafeteria for food, the charges said.

Court records said Labatte was sentenced Monday to 90 months in prison, with credit for 16 days for time served. Labatte must also register as a predatory offender, court documents said.
