Murray County investigates bomb threat
No explosives found, threat believed to be a hoax
SLAYTON — The Murray County Government Center was evacuated and Murray County Central School placed on a short lockdown in response to a bomb threat Tuesday morning, the Murray County Sheriff’s Office said.
No explosive devices were found at the Government Center. Murray County Sheriff Heath Landsman said in a news release that it’s believed the threat was a hoax.
Around 8:19 a.m., the Murray County IT director notified the Murray County Sheriff of a threatening email about a bomb being placed at the Murray County Government Center in Slayton. The Sheriff’s Office and Murray County Emergency Management evacuated the building, and contacted MCC Schools about the threat. MCC, which is located close to the Government Center, was placed on a brief lockdown, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office and Slayton Police created a perimeter around the Government Center and searched the building. Nothing suspicious or suspected of being an explosive device was found, the Sheriff’s Office said. MCC received an all-clear from Murray County Emergency Management around 9:42 a.m. The Government Center re-opened around 10:30.
The Sheriff’s Office believes the bomb threat email was part of a hoax that occurred in multiple Minnesota counties, the news release said. The Sheriff’s Office does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
