Tiger Spotlight shines on students at board meeting
MARSHALL — In Monday evening’s Marshall School Board meeting, students from each Marshall public school were recognized in December’s session of Tiger Spotlight, which honors select students nominated by educators that are excelling in their studies.
Bronx Boddy was nominated as Park Side’s honoree by Amy Peterson.
“I chose Bronx as our Star Writer as he continuously shows exemplary writing skills. Bronx’s writing is a fantastic example of what our first grade Star Writers can achieve,” Peterson said in a presentation given to the board. “Bronx always has much to share in the classroom, and it is such a joy to be able to read his thoughts and what he has to share in his writing.”
Esther Caron at Southview Elementary awarded Elson Castro the distinction.
“Elson comes to school each day excited about learning. He is receiving EL (English Learning) services and has shown great growth in learning English and how to read,” Caron said. “Elson demonstrates many Tiger Pride traits. He has a kind heart and looks out for others. He is quick to give compliments to teachers and classmates.”
Rylee Anderson is the middle school’s spotlight student, given by Nikki Gehrke.
“The sixth grade teachers are proud to recognize Rylee Anderson for showing her Tiger traits both in the classroom and outside of the classroom,” Anderson said. “Rylee enters the classroom with a smile that is contagious. She is engaged in her learning, is willing to share ideas and participates in class. She is a quiet leader in 6th grade and this doesn’t go unnoticed.”
For the high school, Emma Hoversten nominated Shanna Boerboom.
“In her Food Chemistry class, Shanna has distinguished herself as a natural leader. She effectively delegates tasks within her lab group, ensuring that each member is engaged and confident,” Hoversten said. “Shanna’s kindness, drive, and positivity are evident in all her interactions. Her ability to offer words of encouragement and support to classmates who may feel overwhelmed is a testament to her compassionate nature.”
Nolan Vlamink is recognized as the Area Learning Center’s honored student by Donna Bastemeyer.
“Nolan is a thoughtful and attentive student. He has made great progress since he first came to the ALC,” Bastemeyer said. “Outside of his classwork, Nolan has also shown great personal growth since he joined us two years ago … He is on track to complete his necessary coursework by the end of first semester in January and is looking forward to leaving for boot camp soon after.”
