WOOD LAKE — Several area fire departments were called to the site of a turkey barn fire east of the city of Wood Lake on Monday. While responders put out the fire, the building was destroyed, said Wood Lake Fire Chief Brooks Torke.
“The barn is a total loss,” Torke said. “There were no turkeys in the barn.”
Smoke and fire at were reported Monday afternoon at a farm on 590th Street, in Yellow Medicine County. Torke said responders from Wood Lake were first on the scene, and by that time the turkey barn was fully engulfed by flames.
Firefighters from the Wood Lake, Echo, Hanley Falls, Cottonwood and Granite Falls Fire Departments worked to put out the fire. There were no injuries reported in the fire, Torke said.
Torke said the fire is still under investigation. However, he said there was no foul play suspected.
