Jury set to deliberate in Broadmoor trial

Jurors in the ongoing civil trial against the owners of the Broadmoor Valley mobile home park will begin deliberating this afternoon.

Attorneys from the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, and attorneys representing Paul Schierholz and his business Schierholz and Associates, each gave closing arguments today after the end of witness testimony. Attorneys said jurors will be asked to consider evidence on a number of questions, including whether the park was maintained in a clean and orderly manner, whether the roads permitted normal travel, whether renters at Broadmoor Valley were charged illegally high fees for late rent, and whether Schierholz retaliated against residents. Other questions included whether Schierholz and Associates’ actions met the requirements for consumer fraud, and whether they prevented free expression at the park.

Jurors won’t be deliberating whether Schierholz or his business were guilty of crimes. Instead, they will be looking at whether they were liable for the different issues raised at the trial, attorneys said.

The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office sued Schierholz and Associates and Paul Schierholz in 2021.
