MARSHALL — A student from each of Marshall’s public schools were recognized for their hard work and good character in January’s Tiger Spotlight session, presented by the school board Tuesday evening.
Park Side Elementary’s Sylis Lopez was nominated by Katie Hjermstad.
“His handwriting has improved every week, he correctly forms each of his letters, and he remembers everything he needs to write a five-star sentence,” Hjermstad said in a presentation given to the board. “He is willing to work with others during writing projects and is contributing his ideas. I am proud of how hard Sylis is working every day and how much he has grown academically in the first half of the school year.”
Raylan Storm was chosen as Southview Elementary’s recognized student, nominated by Brittany Olson.
“Raylan shows up each day with a positive attitude and a big smile on his face. He always goes above and beyond in absolutely everything he does,” Olson said. “He genuinely cares about his education and being successful. Raylan is also committed to helping his peers succeed daily … He brings so much joy and positivity to our classroom and Southview Elementary.”
Nadine Weedman nominated Ehma Ser as the middle school’s spotlight student.
“Ehma demonstrates the Tiger Traits in everything that he does and is an exceptional role model for his peers,” Weedman said. “He is kind, hard-working, and enjoys learning new things. He is a friend to all and has been a delight to teach this year.”
For Marshall High School, Drew Dunn was chosen by Mitchell Maxwell, Bessie Skalicky and Virginia Bossuyt.
“Drew is an enthusiastic learner with an excellent work ethic, as evidenced by his active participation in band, swimming, speech, Knowledge Bowl and Beats,” the three said in a statement. “Despite his demanding academic and extracurricular schedule, Drew consistently demonstrates patience and a willingness to help his classmates. His dedication and positive attitude have made him a valuable addition to our high school this year.”
Brenda Elton recognized Alexis Boon for the Area Learning Center’s spotlight.
“Alexis comes to school each day with a friendly smile and a positive attitude. She is determined to do well in all her classes and will ask for assistance when needed,” Elton said. “She takes an active role in learning and sets a good example for those around her. She is a joy to have in class.”
The school board frequently mentions Tiger Spotlight is one of their favorite parts of the meetings, and will continue to uphold the tradition each month as the school year progresses.
