MARSHALL — The Marshall School Board honored a student from each district school for their hard work from teacher nominations in its monthly Tiger Spotlight session at Tuesday evening’s school board meeting.

Park Side Elementary teacher Kelly Konietzko nominated Brianna Alvarado Armijo to be recognized.

“Brianna is one of the most exuberant learners I have worked with. She comes to school every day ready to learn, asks multiple questions throughout the day in her quest to be a reader, writer and scholar,” Konietzko said in a presentation given to the board. “Brianna has set lofty goals for herself in not only writing but in reading and math as well. She has achieved amazing things, and I have no doubt will continue to do so.”

For Southview Elementary, Beckett Stensrud was given the recognition by Theresa Leek.

“Beckett effortlessly helps other students feel comfortable and welcomed, always maintaining a positive and respectful attitude. However, what stands out the most is his kindness and compassion towards his peers,” Leek said. “He is quick to defend, uplift, and compliment. Academically, he excels in his studies, demonstrating a strong commitment to learning. It is students like Beckett who make teaching such a rewarding experience.”

Kara Allerson was nominated by the fifth grade team collectively from the middle school.

“Kara is a leader inside and outside of the classroom. She is always showing the Tiger Traits by working hard in her classes, helping others around her, being kind to everyone, and is a positive role model,” the fifth grade teachers wrote. “Academically, she always strives to do her best … Her positive and go-getter attitude is a joy to have in our classrooms every day.”

For the high school, Christopher Shuckhart, Nicole Peterson and Carrie Sueker chose to give the recognition to freshman Layla Konold.

“Layla was new to our school district this fall. Coming in as a freshman is a little intimidating, but she has been thriving,” the three said. “Both (Peterson and Shuckhart) say they have seen Layla go out of her way to help other students and always did so with a smile and positive attitude … Layla strives to do her best work. She is an engaged learner, who asks questions and asks for guidance as needed.”

Johnny Martell Lazano was nominated by Ann Richardson and Brenda Elton as the Area Learning Center’s spotlight student.

“Johnny came to the ALC at the beginning of the school year … As with any transition, it takes time to adjust to new surroundings and expectations. Johnny has reached a point where he is ready to ‘lock in,’ and recover credits with the purpose of graduating,” Richardson and Elton said. “His positive attitude and smile are a joy in the classroom. Johnny’s personal trials and his ability to persevere make him the perfect student for recognition.”

The school board often says that Tiger Spotlight is one of their favorite parts of the meetings, and they will continue to uphold the tradition each month as the school year progresses.
