MARSHALL — Lyon County Museum visitors enjoyed some Valentine’s Day treats and fun on Friday afternoon.

Spread out at tables, visitors made their own valentine cards with colored paper, stickers, pipe cleaners and more.

“I’m making a pillow,” Teagan Pavlicek said.

She threaded a pipe cleaner through the loops around the edges of two fuzzy heart cutouts, lacing them together.

Over at another table, Zoe Pudil and Spencer Raugult were also making their own valentines.

“I love artsy stuff,” Pudil said, so she brought Raugult along to the museum’s Tea and Sweets event.

As part of Tea and Sweets, museum visitors could enjoy a cup of tea and holiday treats, and make their own old-fashioned valentines.

“I also pulled out some of our vintage cards from our collection,” said museum director Jennifer Andries.

The display case could help give visitors some inspiration as they made valentines.

Andries said there were some design elements than many vintage valentines used.

“A lot of them are one-sided — they’re not cards that open,” Andries said. Valentine cards from the Victorian era often used designs with flowers or angels, she said.

Visitors can still enjoy Tea and Sweets today from 2-4 p.m. at the Lyon County Museum on West Lyon Street in Marshall. A free-will donation will be accepted.
