Lanners Brothers Construction under new management

Thorstad Construction takes on operations for Marshall company

MARSHALL — A local construction business has been going through a big transition. But it’s a change that will offer good opportunities to customers, said Jamie Lanners, of Lanners Brothers Construction.

In January, Thorstad Construction Co. took over management of Lanners Brothers Construction. In a Jan. 14 letter to customers, Thorstad Construction owner Pete Speh said the company intended to take on the day-to-day operations of Lanners Brothers Construction, with the hopes of eventually buying the business.

Jamie Lanners said she had been in the process of selling Lanners Brothers, after her husband Galen Lanners died in 2023.

“I’m very positive about this transition,” Jamie Lanners said. She said Thorstad Construction had expertise in commercial construction, which would be helpful for area farmers.

Thorstad Construction, based in Maynard, was founded by Vern Thorstad in 1959. The company has been owned by Pete Speh since 2017. According to the company’s website, some of Thorstad Construction’s areas of focus include building processing plants and grain storage and handling facilities, repairing fertilizer facilities, and grain handling equipment service and supply. Thorstad construction is also a Brock grain dryer dealer.

In January, Jamie Lanners said the transition with Thorstad Construction had been going well. In a way, it was like Lanners Brothers had come full circle, she said. Jim Lanners, Galen’s father, had worked for Thorstad Construction before starting his own business in the 1970s.

After Jim Lanners founded Lanners Construction, he sold the company to his brothers Robert and Jack Lanners. They renamed the business Lanners Brothers Construction. “They did an amazing job building up the business and serving the farmers in the area,” Jamie Lanners said.

In 2018, Galen and Jamie Lanners bought Lanners Brothers Construction. When Galen died from cancer in 2023, Jamie continued operating the business as sole owner.

“We are thankful for all of our wonderful customers who have been with the Lanners,” Jamie said. “We are happy to announce this new management opportunity with Thorstad Construction.”

In the letter to Lanners Brothers customers, Pete and Carrie Speh said the level of service and relationship building customers were used to wouldn’t change with new management.

“We pride ourselves on our return customers and know that good relationships and trust are the foundation of that,” the Spehs said in the letter.

Thorstad Construction said they would be taking care of orders and scheduling service for Lanners Brothers customers. They would also make sure someone would be available at the Marshall office during planting and harvest season.

In a Facebook post this week, Thorstad Construction said the Marshall office of Lanners Brothers Construction would be staffed Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Feb. 11.
