Flanagan to speak at district DFL Convention
WOOD LAKE — Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan will be the keynote speaker at the Senate District 15 DFL Convention later this month.
The convention will be held at the Wood Lake Community Center on March 22.
“We are excited to have the lieutenant governor,” said Theresa Keaveny, one of the event organizers. “We always try to have speakers at the Senate District 15 convention, and we invited her.”
In addition to speakers, the convention is also a time for members of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party to conduct party business and elect officers. Senate District 15 includes Yellow Medicine, Lyon, Lac qui Parle, Brown and Redwood counties, as well as part of Blue Earth County.
Keaveny said DFL members hope to hear Flanagan speak about key issues like legislative priorities in Minnesota, as well as how rural communities are being affected by funding cuts from the Trump administration. They also hope to learn more about Flanagan’s campaign for U.S. Senate.
Flanagan kicked off a statewide campaign tour last week after Sen. Tina Smith announced she would not be running for re-election.
The convention will begin at 10 a.m. on March 22. Flanagan will speak at 11 a.m., organizers said. The Senate District 15 DFL Convention is open to rural people who support DFL values, organizers said.
