Marshall man dies after being hit by car on Hwy. 169
SHOKOPEE — A Marshall man was killed Friday morning when he was hit by a car on U.S. Highway 169 near Shakopee, the Minnesota State Patrol said. Firaol Abebe Merbratu, 25, was a pedestrian standing in the left lane of southbound Highway 169, the State Patrol reported.
The incident was reported at 6 a.m. Friday, on Highway 169 near Old Brickyard Road in Jackson Township, Scott County. A 2011 Toyota RAV4 driven by Nicole Lee Rogers, 45, of Jordan, was traveling southbound when Rogers moved into the left lane to avoid a stalled vehicle on the right shoulder of the road, the State Patrol said.
The Toyota hit Merbratu, who was standing in the left lane, the State Patrol said. He died at the crash scene. Merbratu was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s office, the State Patrol said.
Rogers and a passenger in her vehicle were uninjured, the State Patrol said. The State Patrol reported that alcohol was involved on Merbratu’s part.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Shakopee Police and Fire Department, Allina EMS, and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office all responded at the scene.
