Netflix is looking for a new Laura Ingalls for a planned reboot of the “Little House on the Prairie” TV series.
Last week, the official “Little House on the Prairie” page on Instagram posted that the casting search for the next Laura has begun.
“Do you know an amazing child who could play the role of Laura Ingalls in this epic and thrilling family adventure?” the Instagram post said.
In January, entertainment news website Deadline Hollywood said Netflix had greenlighted a “reimagining” of the Little House series, based on the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
The real-life Ingalls family lived in Walnut Grove for part of Laura’s childhood. A fictionalized version of Walnut Grove became the setting for the “Little House” TV show in the 1970s and ’80s.
The casting call for the part of Laura Ingalls describes the new series as “Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West.” Shooting will take place in Winnipeg, from June to October this year.
The casting call said casting directors are looking for a girl who is 9 to 11 years old. The casting call describes Laura as a “disrupter” who is strong-willed, curious, and resists the boundaries of what was considered ladylike behavior in the 19th century.
