Developer seeks to build townhomes near Canoga Circle

MARSHALL — A Marshall developer is seeking to build townhomes and possible apartments on land near Canoga Circle.

This week, members of the Marshall City Council voted to introduce both a preliminary plat for the development, and a zoning change that would take the property from a general business to a low to medium-density residential zone.

Both items were part of the council’s consent agenda at their regular meeting Tuesday. Council members didn’t discuss the items during the meeting.

Materials in the council’s agenda packet for Tuesday said Greg Taylor wished to build twin townhomes, and possibly eight units of apartments, on an area of land stretching back from Canoga Circle. Canoga Circle is located off of Canoga Park Drive, in an area of Marshall near businesses like the Canoga Park Childcare center, the Super 8 and the Hitching Post restaurant.

A preliminary plat would create lots for the project on land next to a pond behind Canoga Park Drive, agenda materials said. The Marshall Planning Commission held a public hearing on the proposal April 9, and later voted to recommend introduction of the plat, subject to a review by the utility company.

A separate item related to the proposal would re-zone the property to residential. The land near Canoga Circle is currently zoned as a general business district, agenda materials said.

The Planning Commission also held a public hearing on the zoning request April 9, and voted to recommend introduction of the zoning change.

Both the introduction of the preliminary plat, and the introduction of the zoning change, were approved with the city council’s consent agenda.

Starting at $3.95/week.
