Man arrested after search in Tracy
Schools placed on precautionary lockdown Tuesday
TRACY — Schools and a child care facility in Tracy were put under a precautionary lockdown Tuesday evening, as law enforcement searched for a man suspected of making violent threats.
Tracy Police Chief Jason Lichty said the suspect was safely taken into custody.
On Wednesday, Alec Joseph Jahn, 25, of Marshall, appeared in Lyon County District Court on charges of making terroristic threats and carrying a pistol without a permit. A criminal complaint alleges that Jahn was outside of a Tracy residence with a gun, and threatened to shoot someone.
Lichty said Tracy Police received a report of a party making threats on Tuesday afternoon. After police were called in the incident, “A search ensued. We locked down the Tracy Elementary School, Tracy Kids World and Tracy High School for a precaution,” Lichty said in an email to the Independent. Officers from the Lyon, Redwood and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Offices, Walnut Grove Police, Lamberton Police, the Minnesota State Patrol and the Minnesota DNR all assisted in the search for the suspect.
Lichty said a drone located the suspect, and he was taken into custody by Tracy Police.
The criminal complaint filed against Jahn said students at track practice reported seeing a man on the northwest corner of the Tracy Area High School’s property. Law enforcement later located Jahn walking through a row of trees at the Greenwood Nursery property in Tracy, the complaint said. The complaint alleged that Jahn had a loaded .45 caliber handgun in his possession when he was taken into custody.
Jahn did not have a permit to carry, the complaint alleged.
Jahn appeared in custody in Lyon County District Court on Wednesday morning, court records said. Bail was set at $50,000 without conditions, or $20,000 cash or bond with conditions including that Jahn appear in court, abstain from alcohol or non-prescribed drugs, and does not possess firearms.
A future hearing date for Jahn was set for April 29.
