Marshall students honored in April’s Tiger Spotlight
MARSHALL — The Marshall School Board recognized a student of the month from each school for April’s Tiger Spotlight session at Monday’s board meeting.
Tiger Spotlight remains a monthly tradition during the school year, with teachers nominating a student to the board to earn the honor.
Arlet Urias Castillo was chosen as Park Side Elementary’s spotlight student, nominated by Katie Hjermstad.
“Arlet has made huge growth this year both academically and socially. She has worked hard to improve her reading, writing and math skills … She has worked hard every day in school and outside of school and it has paid off,” Hjermstad said. “She is respectful to everyone that she encounters and is a kind friend to many.”
Karely Chavez Martinez was recognized as Southview Elementary’s student, and was described as an eager learner, attentive, great in class participation and always strives to be kind to others.
Emily Dorschner nominated Preston Sirovy for the middle school.
“As a conscientious student, he consistently strives to meet or exceed expectations, demonstrating both curiosity and a commitment to learning. He is not afraid to ask thoughtful questions or seek clarification,” Dorschner said. “His respectful and considerate nature makes him a valued member of any group, as he treats everyone with kindness and fairness.”
For the high school, Kade Buchert was nominated by Laura Petersen, Alex Boddy, Alison Marshall and Bev Welu.
“He works super hard and is a pleasure to be around. Kade advocates for himself and others around him,” the group said. “He is always caught doing the right thing and wants the best for everyone. Kade is the type of student who brightens your day.”
Bella Johnson earned the honor for the Area Learning Center from Donna Bastemeyer and Brenda Elton.
“Bella is consistently attentive and engaged in all her classes, contributing thoughtfully to discussions and always approaching her work with care. In her sewing class, she shows the same attention to detail, taking pride in making sure her seams are straight and accurate,” the two said. “In public speaking, she is showing confidence in her presentations. Bella is friendly, respectful, and brings a positive attitude to class.”
