On the hunt for Easter fun

The Easter holiday is still a little way off, but celebrations are getting an early start in Lyon County.

Beginning this weekend, events like Easter egg hunts and other spring activities are planned in Marshall and surrounding areas.

The list of activities starting off Saturday and Sunday include the annual Easter egg hunt at the Marshall Hy-Vee, as well as a drive-through scavenger hunt at Garvin Park.

• The Hy-Vee egg hunt runs from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, on the lawn near the west side of the Hy-Vee parking lot. There will be staggered egg hunt events for different ages of children, starting with children ages 0-2 at 9 a.m., ages 3-5 at 9:30 a.m., ages 6-7 at 10 a.m., ages 8-9 at 10:30 a.m. and ages 10-12 at 11 a.m. A buffet will also be served from 8-11 a.m.

• Easter celebrations will also be held in Cottonwood and at Boulder Estates on Saturday. The Lakeview Early Childhood Eggstravaganza will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview School in Cottonwood. The event includes crafts, food, and games as well as an egg hunt.

On Saturday afternoon, the Boulder Easter Eggstravaganza kicks off at Boulder Estates in Marshall. From 1-3 p.m., kids can enjoy an indoor egg hunt, face painting, snacks, and take photos with the Easter bunny. A free will donation for Hope Harbor will be accepted.

• This Sunday, a free drive-through Easter event will return to Garvin Park. From noon to 1 p.m., families can travel through the park playing a scavenger hunt game, and meet the Easter bunny. Free goodie bags will be handed out for the first 500 kids who attend. Organizers said many goodie bags will contain special prizes.

Easter weekend events

A wide range of Easter egg hunts and holiday events will be held in area communities the weekend of April 19-20. Below are times and locations for different holiday events:

April 17-19

Lyon County Museum

An Easter egg and bunny scavenger hunt will be held at the Lyon County Museum in Marshall. Museum visitors can count the eggs and bunnies hidden in the exhibit galleries, and turn their completed scavenger hunt forms in for treats. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 4 on Saturday.

April 19

Balaton

An egg hunt will be held at 10 a.m. at Legion-Lion Park. Families can also join in an Easter “I Spy” activity.

Canby

An Easter egg hunt for kids ages 0-12 will be held at 3 p.m. at Del Clark Lake park.

Hendricks

An egg hunt for kids ages 12 and under will be held at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m. Prize drawings will be held at 10:20 a.m.

Ivanhoe

An egg hunt for kids ages 0-12 will be held at 10 a.m. at Gilson Field. Door prize drawings will be held following the egg hunt.

Marshall

An Easter Egg Swim will be held at the Marshall Area YMCA at 9:30 a.m. Children ages 3-12 can hunt for eggs while they play and swim at the Y’s leisure pool. Sign-up is $5.

Milroy

An egg hunt and Easter activities will be held at 9 a.m. at Milroy Public School. Activities will start at 9 a.m., with the egg hunt starting at 10 a.m. Bring your own basket for the egg hunt.

Minneota

An Easter egg hunt will be held at 3 p.m. at K.P. Kompelien field, for kids ages 0-12. A prize drawing will be held following the egg hunt.

Redwood Falls

An Easter brunch and egg hunt will be held from 9-11 a.m. at the Redwood Area Community Center. An egg hunt for children in third grade and younger will start at 9 a.m. Brunch will be hosted by the Redwood Senior Center for a free will donation, while supplies last.

Tracy

The Kiwanis Easter egg hunt will be held at the Tracy Elementary School parking lot at 10 a.m. Kids in third grade and younger can take part in the egg hunt.

Wood Lake

An egg hunt for kids ages 2-7 will be held at 10 a.m. at Freedom Park, weather permitting. Bring your own basket for the egg hunt. There will also be prizes at the Community Center.

April 20

Marshall

A Glo-Wild Egg Hunt will be held from 6-10 p.m. at Independence Park. Kids ages 3-16 can hunt for glowstick-filled eggs, play flashlight tag and do craft activities. Admission is $3 per child, or $10 for a group of five.

Tyler

An Easter egg hunt and activities will be held on the north lawn of Avera Tyler Medical Center starting at 1 p.m. There will be staggered egg hunts for kids of different ages. Kids age 0-2 start at 1 p.m., ages 3-5 at 1:30 p.m., ages 6-9 at 1:45 and ages 10 and up at 2 p.m. Kids can also enjoy face painting and cotton candy.
