Galen Conrad Meyer “Gilligan” was born on July 17, 1954 to Conrad and Elvera (Stage) Meyer in Marshall, MN. He lived in Vesta for most of his life, later moving to Redwood Falls. Galen always loved listening to country music and had many tapes. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta and liked singing in the choir.

After graduating from Wabasso high school Galen attended one year of Vocational School in Willmar. Galen was a member and proud to serve in the National Guard. He also worked at Arcon Wood Works (formerly Hoffco) in Wood Lake for many years. Every day after work he would go to the car trunk and grab a Mountain Dew to drink. When he lived in his apartment he had a good time playing cards with friends.

For the past 2 years he had resided in River Valley Health and Rehabilitation, where he was given very good care and became friends with some of his favorite nurses. God blessed him with a miracle, providing him with improved health these past few months. He was able to go see family and friends, enjoyed going out to eat and watching some of his great nephew’s games. He always had treats to share and especially loved to give something to the little ones. He was a man of few words, but always enjoyed having visitors or getting phone calls to hear about their lives. Thank you all who would brighten his day!

Galen died peacefully, November 1, 2024 at the Centracare Hospital in Redwood Falls. He is survived by his siblings Norine Knudsen, Julaine Baumgarten, Arlen Meyer, Renee (Rich) Linsmeier; sister-in-law Tess Meyer; friend Leo. Galen is preceded in death by his parents Conrad and Elvera; brother Lenus Meyer; in-laws Richard Knudsen, Paul Baumgarten and Jackie Meyer.

In Galen’s memory, memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in lieu of flower.
