MINNEOTA — Mass of Christian Burial for Lorena Dieken, 104, of Minneota, formerly of Green Valley, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cottonwood. A recording of the service will be available later at www.horvathfuneralservice.com. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
Lorena died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, at her residence in Minneota.
Lorena Frances (McLaughlin) Dieken was born June 9, 1920, in Rhame, North Dakota, the third of 12 children born to Alfred and Vetleen (Rosera) McLaughlin. At the age of 16, Lorena moved to Minnesota to work as a cleaner and nanny. Lorena met Abel Dieken while dancing, and the couple was married on July 10, 1940, at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. They raised their family on the farm near Green Valley. Lorena worked as a house cleaner for over 30 years. She was an incredible cook and baker, and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a member of Bridge and 500 card clubs. Lorena enjoyed outdoor activities, including water skiing, snow skiing, roller skating, and ice skating. Her Catholic faith was very important to her, and she was a past president of the CCW. As a couple, Lorena and Abel took many motorcycle trips, including to Sturgis and the east coast. They also loved old-time dancing.
She is survived by her children Ron (Loretta) Dieken and Karolyn (Jasper) Johnson; grandchildren Anita (Darren) Dieken, Christopher (Yolanda) Dieken, Todd (Cindy) Johnson, Bryan (Laura) Johnson, and Brent (Rosalee) Johnson; great-grandchildren Brendan, Brittani, Brady, Baylee, Maia, Naomi, Mattea, Noelle, Tyler, Dylan, Dalton (Courtney), Braden (Morgan), Ashley (Chris), and Gavin; as well as many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Abel, and 11 siblings.
