Ervin “Bill” Zimmer

ECHO–The funeral service for Ervin “Bill” Zimmer, 91, of Echo, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. A recording of the service will be available later at www.sunsetfuneralassociation.com. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at the Echo City Cemetery.

Ervin “Bill” Larry Zimmer was born on August 1, 1933, to Augusta (Werner) Zimmer and Paul Zimmer on the farm near Echo, where Bill grew up and lived his whole life. He was baptized on August 27, 1933, by Pastor Carl Schrader and confirmed on March 30, 1947, by Pastor Theodore Bauer at Peace Lutheran Church, where he served on the board. On June 2, 1953, Bill was drafted by the U.S. Army and was discharged May 2, 1955.

On July 26, 1957, Bill was united in marriage to Delores Lorraine Tietz of Jeffers, Minnesota. After returning from the service he took over the family farm. In retirement Bill and Delores traveled to many states, including Alaska and Hawaii, and also to Europe for their 50th Anniversary. They spent winters in Mesa, Arizona. Bill enjoyed playing golf and cards, dancing, and silver smithing, making jewelry for family and friends.

Bill died on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Parkview Nursing Home in Belview. He is survived by his wife Delores; daughter Doris (Bruce) Meier; grandson Mike (Aimee) Meier, great-grandchildren Kambelle, Capraese and Beckett; granddaughter Melissa (Kent) Louwagie, great-grandchildren Jonah, Gavin and Caleb; grandson Matt (Melissa) Meier, great-grandson Reggie; grandson Marshall Meier, great-grandchildren Ava, Kabe and Drue; great-granddaughter Autumn (Nicklas) Keppers, great-great-granddaughter Bailey Rose; and great-grandson Blake Meier.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brother Arlo Zimmer, sister Ranee Dahl, son Danny who was killed in a farm accident, and grandson Mark Meier.
