George Mathias Turbes

WABASSO–Requiem Funeral for George Mathias Turbes, 93, of Wabasso, MN will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the Church of Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth, MN beginning at 11:00 a.m. Public visitation will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso, MN on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. beginning with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday morning at the Church of Japanese Martyrs at 10:00 a.m. Upon conclusion of the Requiem Funeral a luncheon will be provided at church. Burial will take place at St. Mathias cemetery in Wanda, MN following the luncheon.

George Mathias Turbes was born November 30, 1931 in Willow Lake Township rural Wanda to George and Anna (Schilling) Turbes. He was baptized at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda and had his 1st Communion and Confirmation at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. George attended school at St. Anne’s School through the 8th grade. He worked on the family farm until entering the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on December 8, 1955.

George met the love of his life Helena Spevacek and married her on June 6, 1959 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. He had a Dairy Farm for many years and enjoyed working with horses, gardening, playing ball with his family, dancing and playing concertina. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

George passed away on Tuesday January 21, 2025 at Gilmor Manor in Morgan.

He is survived by his children, George (Christine) Turbes of Redwood Falls, Joseph (Teya) Turbes of Castle Wood, SD, Cecilia (Robert) Senkyr of Franklin, Michael Turbes of Post Falls, ID, Mark (Julia) Turbes of Boerne, TX, Patricia (Peter) U’Ren of Redwood Falls, Mary (Darwin) Stromseth of Watertown, SD, James (Sandra) Turbes of Wood Lake, Rosanne (Pablo) Levi of St. Paul, and John Turbes of Redwood Falls; 36 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Helena; parents George and Anna; sisters Teresa Groebner, Agnes Turbes and Margaret Kalbfell; granddaughter Ana Marie Senkyr. Blessed be his memory.
