Mass of Christian Burial for John Wartner, 68, of Marshall, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2024, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. John Paul Wartner was born on May 4, 1956, in St. Paul, MN. He was adopted as an infant by Everett and Everal (Brosseau) Wartner. John grew up in Marshall, attended Holy Redeemer School and graduated from Marshall High School in 1974. He attended college in Pipestone and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Bemidji State University. John lived and worked in Colorado and Marshall. In Colorado he worked for the Schwan Food Company and U.S. Sprint. He taught in St. Cloud, Cottonwood and Marshall. John believed in service to his community and he volunteered for many organizations including United Way, the Food Shelf and Big Buddies.
John had many interests including men’s choral groups, reading financial journals, fishing, hunting, and water skiing. He also enjoyed walking, bike riding and helping his cousins on the farm. He enjoyed his daily trips to the library and the YMCA.
After a brief illness, John died on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He is survived by his sister Rose Marie Wartner-Chaney of Pine, CO; nephews Joseph (and Whitney), Jacob and Jeremiah; great niece Reese Marie; and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Don Wartner-Chaney.
