James “Jim” Almjeld

MARSHALL–James “Jim” Almjeld, age 78, of Marshall, MN, died on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Avera Hospital in Granite Falls, MN. Memorial Services are 12:00 p.m. next Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Following military honors and a light reception, interment will be at the Bethel Community Cemetery in rural Garvin, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his celebration, from 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. next Saturday, also at the funeral home. An online guestbook is available at www.hamiltonfh.com.

James Roger Almjeld was born on March 9, 1946, to Clarence and Sue (Toupal) Almjeld in Tyler, MN. He was baptized on April 5, 1956, received his First Communion, and was confirmed on September 28, 1958, all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy, MN. Jim grew up in Garvin where he attended elementary school. Jim went on to Tracy High School and enjoyed playing football. He was then drafted into the United States Army in 1965. Jim proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.

Jim married Rebecca “Becky” Olson-Thiesse in 1968, and the couple had 4 children. Jim rejoined the Army and he and his family were stationed at Fort Bliss (TX), Fort Campbell (KY), Wurzburg (Germany) and Fort Bragg (NC). Jim married a second time in 1991 to Debra Marie Payne. Jim and Deb shared 14 years together prior to separating in 2005.

Jim was a good man, who adored his family and kept a small circle of friends. He was a passionate fan of the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Vikings. His main hobbies were hunting, fishing, and carpentry. He was a patriot, a gifted salesman, a home builder and truck driver.

He is survived by his 4 children, James (and Connie with Dustin, Dylan, Zac, and Alyssa) Almjeld of Marshall, MN, Chad (and Joannie with Michael, Charlie, Joseph) Almjeld of Waconia, MN, Shari (with Brianna) Ogle of Marshall, MN, Sue (and Brent) Flot of Lafayette, CO; great-grandson, Ezekiel Almjeld; sister, Linda (and Darrel) Wendorff of Tracy, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Sue Almjeld.

Jim reached the age of 78 years, 10 months, and 23 days. He will be profoundly missed; May God grant him peace.
