Michael Locy

Dec. 3, 1952-Feb. 26, 2025

WATERTOWN, S.D. — Mass of Christian Burial for Michael Locy, 72, of Watertown, SD will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.

He passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, due to complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Mike was born on Dec. 3, 1952, in Marshall, to Alphonse and Leona (Steuck) Locy.  He was baptized, received his first Communion and Confirmation at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Mike was joined in marriage to Tamara Bennett on April 14, 1984 (the girl from F Street, just around the corner from Mike’s home on Brian Street.) They grew their family with son Zachary and daughter Alexandra. Mike adored his family throughout his life. He was an immensely proud dad and grandfather, who enjoyed making the diaper run, updating friends with baby milestones and spoiling his three granddaughters, who called him Papa.

Mike’s career was spent in road construction, working as crew foreman and later as an estimator.  He ended his career with Jensen Rock & Sand of Mobridge, SD.

In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his red Harley and driving his Z-28 Camaro. Mike was a fan of NASCAR, of which a race was never missed. The Packers, Chiefs and Minnesota Wild were his teams. He was always up for a good game of poker and reveled in taking money from his friends.

Mike had many health challenges later in life, but faced them with a positive attitude.  His acceptance and bravery was an inspiration to many.

Michael received Holy Communion and Sacramental Rites on Tuesday. He peacefully passed to his eternal home the following day, surrounded by his loving family. As is custom at the Prairie Lakes hospital, with the arrival of a new baby, a lullaby is played throughout the facility. Just as Mike left us, the sweet tune could be heard.  One soul leaves earth, another comes in.

Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife Tamara, children Zachary (Ashely), Alexandra (fiancé Dean McClain), precious granddaughters, Amelia, Ruby and Isla Locy and all of his Bennett family in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father in-law Howard Bennett and sister in-law Anita Bennett.

Blessed be the memory of Michael Locy.

Thank you Papa for sharing your life and loving us!
