Carolynn Janie (Leese) Boyes, age 83, passed away peacefully in Las Vegas NV on April 11, 2025.

Born on February 21, 1942, in Marshall, MN, Janie was the daughter of Otto and Alice Leese. She grew up in the heart of Minnesota and graduated from Minneota High School. From a young age, she demonstrated a strong work ethic — at just eight years old, she was driving the tractor in the family fields.

Throughout her life, Janie held many jobs that reflected her creativity and adaptability. She worked as a cashier, hostess, waitress, bartender, cocktail server, cake decorator, dental-assistant, receptionist and chocolate factory worker, bringing kindness and generosity to each endeavor.

On April 25, 1964, Janie married Gene Martin. They had three children: Dion, Sheri and Shawn.

Janie had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. She loved cooking hearty meals and spending holidays with family. She found joy in fishing trips and camping adventures. She also enjoyed garage “sailing”, always looking out for hidden treasures and bargaining! She spent hours crocheting with patience and creativity. She also spent hours in the front row of Elvis concerts at the Las Vegas Hilton. Being kissed by the King of Rock and Roll was one of her most-treasured memories! She loved living in Las Vegas, NV, and Big Bear Lake, CA. She was a proud go-er of the Minnesota State Fairs and Minneota horse shows.

Janie is survived by her daughter Sheri Martin, her son Shawn Martin and her sister Brenda Leese. She was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Alice Leese, her sister Betty Prellwitz and her son Dion Martin.

Janie will be remembered for her hardworking spirit, sweet nature, generous heart and unwavering kindness. She gave undivided attention and limitless time to her children, family and friends. Her memory will bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
