Ethel Kathleen Kultala was born on April 20, 1941, in Cloquet, Minnesota, to parents Andrew and Helga (Glader) Kultala. She grew up in Cloquet and graduated there with the high school class of 1959. Ethel went on to spend the next three years studying nursing at Saint Luke’s in Duluth and, before her graduation in 1962, she met the love of her life on a blind date.
On October 5, 1963, Ethel was united in marriage to Eugene Lindberg at First Lutheran Church in Duluth, Minnesota. The couple moved around extensively in Minnesota as Gene’s banking career took him to various locations and Ethel followed, working in various nursing facilities along the way. They raised two children and moved out to the Black Hills while Beth and Bryan were in school. They then took an opportunity to move back to Minnesota and the couple moved to Marshall in November of 2015 to be near family. When Ethel needed more assistance with her daily care, she moved into Morningside Heights Care Center in 2019.
Ethel was active in P.E.O. International while they lived in South Dakota. Her other hobbies in life included dancing, sewing, listening to music, and tackling crossword puzzles.
Ethel died peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, just 12 days shy of her 84th birthday. Blessed be her memory.
