Fischbach urged to support funding for Alzheimer’s research

To the editor:

This past September, I lost my mother to Alzheimer’s disease. It was a heart-wrenching experience that I know far too many families across Minnesota and the country are familiar with. Alzheimer’s is a relentless, degenerative disease that affects not only those who are diagnosed but also their families and loved ones. As I reflect on the painful journey my family went through, I am reminded of the crucial need for further research into this devastating disease.

I am writing to urge Rep. Michelle Fischbach, who represents Minnesota’s District 7, to support robust funding for Alzheimer’s research in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Investing in Alzheimer’s research is not just a matter of finding a cure — it’s about providing hope, support, and a better future for the millions of families impacted by this disease.

We know that significant progress can be made with the right resources. Over the past few years, we’ve seen breakthroughs in research, but we need more investment to ensure those breakthroughs can turn into treatments that will help those in the early stages and eventually a cure. The NIH has been instrumental in supporting Alzheimer’s research, and now more than ever, it is critical to continue increasing that funding.

As a constituent of District 7, I ask Representative Fischbach to stand with those of us affected by Alzheimer’s and support the funding necessary to drive forward critical research. The time to act is now. Together, we can help ensure that future generations do not have to endure the same painful experience that so many families are facing today.

The Alzheimer’s Association of MN/ND offers free resources for people who are impacted by this disease. Visit alz.org/mnnd or call the 24-7 Helpline at (800) 272-3900.
