Let’s be patient

I looked out my window and was offered a lesson for life.

The snow had fallen. The roads and sidewalks were covered with a film of white stuff and ice. Once again, the lesson learned years ago marched through my head. Be patient, take it easy, slow down!

But being so darn sure of myself, I knew I could master a walk to the grocery store. Upon taking my first step in the snow, I realized the importance of those long ago supposedly learned lessons. I slipped on the ice. Thankfully, I regained my balance, and very gingerly, continued my walk while muttering to myself to be patient, take it easy and slow down, you numbskull!

Later, I slipped into a booth with some family members who were visiting us for a multi celebratory dinner. We ordered a round of beverages, and my order was for an oatmeal stout. The very alluring brew arrived, and it was admired for its dark brown color. I took my time to view it, to smell it and to slowly sip it. My reward for honoring the stout with patience was an absolutely delicious full malty and brown sugar tasting beer. I took a breath and smiled in appreciation.

Later that day, we celebrated a birthday and the season with a glass of Josh Prosecco. Again, there was a reminder to slow down and enjoy the patience that went into the making of this crisp and refreshingly bubbly liquid.

Maybe we should all never forget the art of patience that goes into the making of wine. When toasting with a glass of wine, isn’t that a moment for us to look into each others eyes and realize the good fortune we have of being together? Let the good times roll!

However, remember the effort and expertise that went into making that special liquid. The wine maker took a huge amount of time to grow, pick, and produce a special wine. Let us never zoom by that image as we honor the history of the wine.

As I write this piece, I’m having a cup of coffee and looking out the window at an amazing view. The blue river is reflecting the blue of the sky. The blue water is highlighted by the gorgeous white snow surrounding it. In the background I see the brown resting trees. I’m glad I took the time to look out of the window. Once again, nature is telling me to relax and enjoy the moment.

Of course, it’s also telling me to be patient! The months will slip by and soon spring will be smiling upon us.

Now if only I would, one day, learn to take my own advice. Be patient, take it easy, slow down, and, for cripes’ sake, relax!

As always, eat and drink in moderation but laugh with reckless abandon!

Cheers!
