On the Porch
The social news or gossip columns in the old newspapers are always fascinating to read. A special section in the newspaper was devoted to the social media of the day. The whereabouts of local people and events were often featured in these columns. Here are a few from The News Messenger of Lyon County on April 28, 1922:
Supt. L.C. McCarty is a patient at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis where he has been quite seriously ill. Mr. McCarty was taken ill with an attack of the “flu” while in Minneapolis during the Easter vacation and was removed from his hotel to the hospital after suffering complications. Advices from the hospital are to the effect that he is now out of danger but may be confined for some time.
