YOUTH WRESTLING: Marshall youth wrestling team posts strong finish to season at state tournament
MARSHALL – The Marshall Tiger youth wrestling team recently wrapped up its 2017-2018 season at the NYWA State Wrestling Tournament held at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester on April 5-8.
Wrestlers who placed in the top 4 of their age and weight class at the regional tournament that was held earlier in March, were able to advance on to the state tournament. The Tigers qualified 18 wrestlers to compete at the state tournament this year. Wrestlers placing at the state tournament include: Dylan Louwagie – State Champion, Tate Condezo – second place, Tucker Fiene – second place, Lincoln Christenson – fourth place, Landon Marthaler – fourth place, McCoy Marthaler – fourth place and Tyler Kraft – fifth place.
Wrestlers who placed fourth-sixth at the Regional Tournament had the opportunity to wrestle at the Invitational Tournament also held at the Mayo Civic Center. Seven Tiger wrestlers competed in the tournament. Wrestlers placing at the Invitational Tournament include: Lukas Stelter – second place, Dawson DeCamp – third place and Drew Chandler – fourth place.
The Tiger K-6 team also competed at the State Tournament. The team competition included 32 of the top K-6 teams from across the state. The Tigers went 4-1 during this two-day tournament. In pool rounds, the Tigers defeated GMLOS 46 -18, Brainerd 62-15 and fell to Becker 42-29. The Tigers went on to win the consolation bracket by defeating United 43-28 and Hastings 38-25. The Tigers finished in fifth place at the state tournament, ending their season with a 28-1 overall record. This is the highest placement at the state tournament in Tiger K-6 Team history.
