SMSU GOLF: Mustangs close season placing seventh at NSIC Championship

SMITHVILLE, Mo. — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team concluded its 2021-22 season on Sunday finishing in seventh place at the 13-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship played at the par-72, 5,930-yard, Paradise Pointe-Outlaw Course.

SMSU shot a 49-over-par 337 on Sunday to finish with a three-round score of 163-over 1,027.

Augustana won the team title with a score of 76-over 940, while Abbey Kurmel from Wayne State won the individual title by one stroke with a 14-over 230.

Courtni Frank finished with SMSU’s lowest score in the championship placing 17th in the 65-player field with a 34-over 250. She closed play on Sunday with a 14-over 86 with eight pars. Frank finished the championship with 25 pars and one birdie.

Ashley Trongard tied for 19th at 38-over 254 after a Sunday round of 12-over 84. She had 10 pars on Sunday and finished the championship recording 25 pars and one birdie.

Sally Gallagher, who was named All-NSIC second team on Sunday for her play during the season, also shot a 12-over 84 in the final round with six pars and one birdie. She tied for 25th overall with a score of 45-over 261.

Danielle Podoll carded an 18-over 90 in the final round and placed 41st overall with a 53-over 269, while Jacqueline Gossen shot SMSU’s low round on Sunday with an 11-over 83. She placed tied for 42nd at 54-over 270.

SMSU finished the season with an overall stroke average of 332.4 ranking as the fifth best in program history.

Gallagher closed the season with an 81.7 stroke average in 20 rounds ranking 10th in team single-season history. She ranks eighth in team history with an 84.1 average.
