WWG falls short vs. Edgerton
Section 3A South girls basketball quarterfinals roundup
WORTHINGTON — Despite 25 points from Izzy Klumper, the No. 2 Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team came up short in its Section 3A quarterfinals matchup against No. 3 Edgerton, falling 53-41 to the Flying Dutchmen.
The Chargers went into the break tied at 26-26, thanks to a deep 3-pointer by Klumper at the buzzer, but were unable to keep pace with the Edgerton offense in the second half.
Klumper finished the game with five made 3-pointers.
WWG blew out Adrian/Ellsworth in its first-round matchup, 46-29, in part due to 19 points from Klumper.
Leah Carter was WWG’s second-leading scorer in the game, finishing with 7 points.
The loss was the third time WWG and Edgerton had met this season. The Chargers picked up a 39-37 win in Edgerton on Jan. 12 before dropping a matchup in Westbrook, 58-55, on Feb. 6.
The Chargers will return their entire team next season. They had no seniors but five juniors on the roster this season.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove finishes the season at 18-8.
No. 1 SWMC 66, TMB 52
WORTHINGTON — Hailey Gernentz and Jordan Munson were able to put points on the board for the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team in its Section 3A quarterfinals matchup against top-seeded Southwest Minnesota Christian Tuesday night. Yet, a lack of bench production resulted in the No. 4 Panthers’ season coming to an end, 66-52.
Gernentz scored a game-high 18 points on the night while shooting 6-11 from the field. All six of Gernentz’s makes came from 3-point range, where she shot 6-9.
Munson scored 16 points on 6-20 shooting. She also dished out seven assists, grabbed seven rebounds, and came away with a pair of blocks and a pair of steals on the defensive end.
The Panthers outscored the Eagles 30-26 in the second half, but their 18-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome.
Brianna Swanson was the Panthers’ second-leading scorer with 6 points. No other TMB player scored more than two.
Emma Edwards was the Panthers’ second-leading rebounder with six boards.
Gernentz stole the ball four times on the defensive end while Grace Dolan finished with another three.
TMB finishes its season at 15-12.
