Marshall boys finish as runners-up at Lucky Lindy Invite

LITTLE FALLS — Sam Deutz, Kohen Holcomb and Landon Marthaler all put together top-10 finishers in a field of 134 runners at the Lucky Lindy Invitational on Thursday night. The trio’s performance led the Marshall boys cross country team to a runner-up finish at the event while the Marshall girls team placed sixth.

On the boys side, Marshall put together a team score of 55 points, trailing only Perham’s 41 points and finishing well ahead of third-place Fergus Falls’ total of 118 in the field of 21 teams. On the girls side, Marshall’s team score of 184 sandwiched them behind Little Falls at 166 and Monticello at 196. Perham, Alexandria and St. Cloud Cathedral took the top three spots at 54, 68 and 101 points respectively.

Sam Deutz was the Tigers’ top finisher on the day, coming in as the individual runner-up at 16:02.05.

Perham’s Bjorn Anderson was the individual champion at 15:48.0 while his teammates Dylan Guck and Matt Jorgenson took fourth and fifth place.

Holcomb and Marthaler finished neck-and-neck for the Tigers, placing seventh and eighth respectively. Holcomb crossed the line at 16:37.7 while Marthaler finished at 16:40.5, finishing just half of a second behind Perham’s No. 4 scorer, Carter Flatau.

Josh Leibfried and Keagen Anderson rounded out the Marshall scorers in 17th and 20th place respectively. Leibfried clocked in a time of 16:56.5 while Anderson registered a 17:02.7 finishing time.

Oakley Schneekoth and Katelyn Leibfried were the Marshall girls’ top finishers. The freshman and sophomore placed 23rd and 24th respectively, with Schneekloth finishing at 20:29.7 and Leibfried right behind her at 20:32.1.

Monticello’s Isabel Mahoney won the meet at 18:09.6, followed by Fergus Fall’s Cassie Wellman at 18:35.0 and St. Cloud Apollo’s Zili Lenzner at 19:18.3.

Freshman Landrey Graven and eighth grader Ayanna Flowers placed 45th and 53rd overall for Marshall at 21:51.1 and 22:23.1. Jasmine Murphy rounded out the Tiger scorers in 58th at 22:29.4 and Kaitlyn Soupir, though not scoring, put together another solid performance right on Murphy’s heels at 22:29.7.

Marshall will next compete at the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m.
