SMSU volleyball earns 6 All-NSIC selections
BURNSVILLE — The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced its All-NSIC volleyball teams on Wednedsay afternoon with the Southwest No. 7 Minnesota State University Mustangs earning six nods.
Freshman setter Sydney Thein was the lone first-teamer for the Mustangs, breaking out in her first season as a starter after redshirting her freshman year. She’s the second player from her class to make the first team as a freshman as Marshall’s Leah Jones was a first-team selection as a true freshman last year.
Jones was one of five Mustangs selected to the second team this season, alongside Saari Kuehl, Ashley Peltier, McKenzie Tolk and Emma VanHeel. VanHeel and Kuehl were the team’s lone seniors this year, leaving SMSU with plenty of returning talent to rely on.
Northern State’s Abby Meister was named the conference’s Libero of the year in her second season with the team after transferring from SMSU.
St. Cloud State earned two of the four major individual awards as Kenzie Foley was named the Offensive Player of the Year while head coach Chad Braegelmann was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Huskies to a perfect 17-0 record in the NSIC. Concordia-St. Paul’s Makenna Nold was named the Freshman of the Year.
Canby native and current Augustana middle hitter Maya Wente was named to the All-NSIC second team.
