Wabasso 91, NUC 77
NEW ULM — Five players finished in double digits to power the Wabasso boys basketball team to a 91-77 win over New Ulm Friday evening, marking its third straight.
Both Brayden Guetter and Caden Frericks finished with a double-double performance.
Guetter tallied 24 points, going 4 for 8 from the arc, with 11 rebounds, while Frericks finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Calvin Hanna followed with 14 points and a team-high five assists, while Jack Burns and Tavyn Larson had 10 points respectively.
Wabasso shot 13 for 34 from the 3-point line and 47% from the field.
Wabasso (5-2) will next return home to host Westbrook-Walnut Grove (6-2) on Dec. 27 at 1 p.m.
Marshall 68, Pipestone Area 47
PIPESTONE — The Marshall boys basketball team forced 16 Pipestone Area turnovers on Friday night while coughing it up just seven times themselves, capitalizing on that advantage for a 68-47 road win over the Arrows.
Cooper Mensink and Levi Maeyaert led the Tigers’ efforts in the turnover battle, accounting for four and three of the Tigers’ 14 steals respectively.
Alex Franson led Marshall scorers on the night with 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the field and 2 of 3 shooting from long range. Maeyaert and Mensink each also made a pair of 3-pointers as Marshall shot 8 of 23 from beyond the arc as a team, compared to Pipestone shooting 4 of 8.
Mensink finished as Marshall’s second-leading scorer with 11 points on 4 of 13 shooting while JR Vierstraete added another 10 points on 4 of 9 shooting.
Marshall built a 31-24 rebounding advantage, including a 16-7 edge on the offensive glass. Jack Meier led the way with four offensive rebounds and tied Vierstraete with five total rebounds, while Jayden Meister grabbed another three offensive boards.
Marshall (5-1) will next compete against Tea Area (S.D.) on Dec. 30 at 7:15 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd 86, KMS 44
KERKHOVEN — Brayson Boike’s double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds led the No. 2 Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team to its fourth consecutive win Friday evening, taking down Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 86-44.
Boike recently became Dawson-Boyd’s all-time leading scorer in program history in Tuesday’s win over Central Minnesota Christian.
Gunner Liebl and Drew Hjelmeland both scored 18 points as well, and Jaxton Hastad followed with 12.
Hjelmeland also dished a team-high four assists with seven rebounds.
The Blackjacks overall had a good shooting night, going 63% from the field and 8 of 17 from the 3-point line for a 47% clip.
Dawson-Boyd held KMS to 36% from the field and 26% from the arc.
Dawson-Boyd (5-1) will take on some quality opponents next weekend, facing off against No. 4 Nevis (3-0) and Class AA No. 1 Albany (5-0) at St. John’s University on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s game against Nevis is slated for 2:45 p.m. while Saturday’s against St. John’s is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
WWG 83, HLOF 50
WESTBROOK — The Westbrook Walnut Grove boys basketball team defeated Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda 83-50 Friday evening behind Hudsen Jenniges 27 points, 12 rebounds and five steals.
A handful of Chargers’ got involved on offense to power the win. Drew Swanson added in 17 points, Kyle Curry and Neil Kuehl finished with 11 each, and Jackson Jenniges finished with 10 points.
Kuehl also had a team-high six assists.
WWG (7-2) will next travel to Wabasso (5-2) on Dec. 27 at 1 p.m.
RRC 69, YME 53
GRANITE FALLS — The Red Rock Central boys basketball team got its first win of the season with a 69-53 defeat over Yellow Medicine East Friday evening. The Falcons outrebonded the Sting 31-22, who have now dropped four games consecutively.
RRC built up a 36-25 lead at the half, and kept its lead through the night.
Henry Stavnes carried the team with 35 points, 22 of which were scored in the first half. Abe Stavnes finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Carter Therkilsen had a team-high nine rebounds.
Eric Jimenez led the Sting with 14 points, and Gavin Torvik followed with 11 points and three steals.
Gunnar Fagen followed with 9 points, and Jacob Peterson finished with 9 points, four rebounds and three steals.
RRC (1-4) will look to keep the momentum going next when it takes on Renville County West (6-1) on Dec. 30 at Southwest Minnesota University’s R/A Facility at 11 a.m.
YME (1-5) will look to snap its skid at home when it hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Dec. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
