GreyCloud and Jenniges drop 40-plus points in team wins

YME 86, BLHS 51
GRANITE FALLS — A triple-double performance from Wakinyan GreyCloud, finishing with 41 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds, pushed the Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team to an 86-51 win over Buffalo Lake-Hectory-Stewart Friday night, ending a four-game losing skid.
GreyCloud, who also finished with a team-high six steals, shot 56% from the field, 27% at the 3-point line, and 50% at the charity stripe.
Jacob Peterson followed with 27 points and four steals, and went for a team-high 5 for 9 from the arc.
Overall, the Sting shot 45% from the field and limited the Mustangs to just 33%.
YME outrebounded BLHS 35-28, and collected a team total of 16 steals to the Mustangs’ two.
Yellow Medicine East will look to secure another win today at the Lakeview weekend tournament in Cottonwood when it takes on Nicolett at 12:30 p.m.
WWG 98, Wabasso 94
WABASSO — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team held off for a nailbiting 98-94 overtime victory over Wabasso Friday afternoon, marking the Chargers’ highest scoring outing this season yet. Hudsen Jenniges finished with a game-high 40 points, and went 9 for 9 at the free throw line.
In addition to Jenniges, Drew Swanson finished with 30 points, Jackson Jenniges made a game-high four 3-pointers and Neil Kuehl added another 15 points.
Wabasso went into halftime with a 1-point 38-37 edge over WWG. But, the Chargers returned the favor and outshot the Rabbits by a single point in the second half to bring the game into overtime.
WWG put the game away after going 13-9 in the extra period.
A handful of Wabasso players put up big numbers as well.
Brayden Guetter led the Rabbits with 29 points. Tavyn Larson followed with 16 points, while Jacks Burns tallied 13 and Drew Kemp finished with 10 points behind a trio of 3-pointers.
WWG (7-2) will return to the court in the new year when it travels to take on Edgerton on Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Wabasso (5-3) will look to get back on track when it goes to Minneota (3-3) on Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd 67, Nevis 62
COLLEGEVILLE — The No. 2 Dawson-Boyd boys basketball teams extends to a five-game win streak after it took down No. 4 Nevis, handing them their first loss of the season, 67-62 Friday afternoon at St. John’s University.
Brayson Boike led the way with a team-high 20 points to six rebounds and four assists. Gunner Liebl finished with 17 points behind shooting 3 for 4 at the 3-point line, six rebounds and a team-high five assists. Jaxton Hastad followed with 15 points and seven rebounds. Drew Hjelmeland led the team with eight rebounds.
Despite the Blackjacks shooting 43% from the field, and 36% from the arc, compared to Nevis’ 44% mark from the field and 53% 3-point clip, it was the rebounds and steals that made a game difference.
Dawson-Boyd collected 30 boards and six steals to the Tigers 23 rebounds and three steals, which ultimately gave them more scoring opportunities.
The Blackjacks improve to 6-1 on the season and will look to keep the momentum going again today against tough competition when it faces No. 1 Albany (6-0) at 7:30 p.m. again at St. John’s.
Lakeview 67, A/E 48
COTTONWOOD — Braylon Breyfogle scored a team-high 14 points to help the Lakeview boys basketball team defeat Adrian-Ellsworth 67-48 Friday evening.
In addition to Breyfogle, Carson Boe tallied 15 points, Dylan Caron added in 9 points and Trevor Tusberg finished with 8.
Lakeview (4-4) has now evened out its season with a four-game winning streak, after dropping its first four games straight. It will look to keep its momentum going when it next hosts Benson today at 7:30 p.m. on the second day of the weekend tournament to close out 2024.
RTR 82, Edgerton 54
TYLER — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team defeated Edgerton 82-54 Friday morning.

RTR (3-1) extends to a three-game winning streak after dropping its season opener and will look to keep the stride going in the new year when it travels to take on Hills-Beaver Creek on Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Lake Park 77, Canby 51
LAKE PARK — The Canby boys basketball team fell to Lake Park-Audubon 77-51 Friday evening, and is still searching for its first win of the season.
Stats were not provided at time of publication.
Canby (0-7) closes out 2024 and will look to get in the win column when it travels to Renville County West on Jan. 3 at 7:15 p.m.
