Marshall falls shy of Martin County Area in home opener
MARSHALL — Despite making progress from its season debut last week, the Marshall gymnastics team was unable to take down Martin County Area in its home opener on Tuesday night, falling 127.25-114.525 to the Magic.
Autumn Deutz was the Tigers’ scoring leader, finishing as the individual runner-up at 30.475. She was the individual runner-up on the bars at 8.05, took fourth on the floor at 7.65 and sixth on the beam at 6.95, tying her with Chioma Onyeaghala.
Onyeaghala put together her best performance of the day on the floor routine, clocking in ag 7.725. It was one of two events in which she led Marshall, as her 8.05 score on the vault was also good for fourth place.
Leah Wing placed fifth in a pair of events, scoring 7.95 in the vault and a team-best 7.025 on the beam.
Shyann Murphey and Raya Goergen placed fifth and sixth in the bars at 7.1 and 5.9.
Marshall falls to 0-2 in duals on the season and will look to get in the win column when it hosts Redwood Valley on Monday at 6 p.m.
