Tigers dominate paint in win over Windom

WINDOM — The Marshall boys basketball team’s ability to penetrate into the paint made all the difference in its Tuesday night matchup against Windom. The Tigers outscored Windom 62-22 in the paint to pull away for an 81-47 win on the road.
Cooper Mensink and Alex Franson led the charge for the Tigers, finishing with 18 and 17 points respectively. Mansink shot 8 of 12 from the field and 2 of 5 from long range, the only Tiger with multiple 3-pointers, while Franson shot 8 of 12 from the field with one 3-pointer.
As a team, Marshall shot 65% on 48 attempts from inside the arc, while knocking down 4 of their 13 3-point attempts. Windom, meanwhile, shot 38% on 29 attempts from 2-point range and 6 of 17 from 3-point range.
Marshall finished with a 27-19 rebounding advantage, including eight offensive rebounds to Windom’s three. Mensink led the team with five rebounds while Davion Xayarath grabbed another four.
Defensively, Franson finished with three steals for the Tigers while Mensink contributed another two.
Marshall improves to 3-0 with the win and will look to keep the momentum rolling when it goes on the road to face off against No. 5 Mankato East (1-1) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
WWG 64, SWMC 52
WESTBROOK — Hudsen Jenniges recorded a 36-point double-double on Tuesday night to will the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team to a 64-52 win over Southwest Minnesota Christian.
Jenniges scored 19 of his points in the first half and finished the night with four 3-pointers. Jackson Jenniges also made five 3s to finish the night with 15 points.
Aside from scoring, Hudsen Jenniges contributed 10 rebounds, four steals and four assists in the win.
WWG improves to 2-1 with the win and will next host Adrian-Ellsworth (2-3) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
HLOF 60, RRC 48
FULDA — Another hot shooting night from Henry Stavnes wasn’t enough to get the Red Rock Central boys basketball team its first win on Tuesday night as the Falcons fell 60-48 against Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda.
Henry Stavnes scored a game-high 23 points with six 3-pointers in the game while Abe Stavnes added another 11 points in the loss.
The Falcons trailed 22-13 at halftime. While they ratcheted up their offensive pace, they weren’t able to limit HLOF enough to make the comeback.
Red Rock Central falls to 0-3 with the loss and will return to action on Friday when it hosts Hills-Beaver Creek (0-0) at 7:30 p.m.
Springfield 93, Wabasso 60
SPRINGFIELD — The Wabasso boys basketball team suffered its first loss Tuesday night with a 93-60 defeat to Springfield.
Brayden Guetter led the team with 13 points, while Tavyn Larson followed with 11.
Caden Frericks also added in 9 points.
The Rabbits, now 2-1, will look to get back in the win column when they return home on Friday to host Sleepy eye at 7:30 p.m.
