Balanced offensive attack leads Minneota over KMS

PREP BOYS BASKETBALL

Minneota 65, KMS 51

KERKHOVEN — A well-rounded scoring effort put the Minneota boys basketball team on top Thursday night as the Vikings defeated Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 65-51.

Lincoln Jerzak and Tate Peterson led the Vikings with 11 and 10 points respectively. Creed Stassen, Adam Dalager, Easton Larson and Brody Johnston each also scored 8 or more points in the win.

The Vikings dominated the glass, capturing a 46-27 edge overall and a 21-6 advantage on the offensive glass. Jerzak and Larson grabbed nine and eight total rebounds respectively while Hunter Carstensen and Stassen led the team with five and four offensive rebounds.

Kyson Arndt dished out a game-high three assists with no turnovers.

On the defensive end, Jerzak led the team with four steals while Carstensen and Lucas Rybinski each grabbed another three.

Minneota (6-8) welcomes Lac qui Parle Valley (6-9) into the Viking Gym for its next game on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

RTR 55, WWG 52

WESTBROOK — The scoring of Sean Griesse, Colten Thomsen and Juhl Drake helped the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team outlast Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Thursday night for a 55-52 defensive battle win. The victory marked the Knights’ ninth consecutive win.

Griesse scored a game-high 15 points while Thomsen and Drake scored another 14 and 12 respectively.

Drew Swanson scored a game-high 20 points for WWG but the team’s scoring depth couldn’t match RTR. Hudson Jenniges also contributed 11 points while Neil Kuehl chipped in another 9.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (13-2) looks to keep its hot streak alive when it heads to Edgerton for a game against Southwest Minnesota Christian (7-5) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove (12-4) wraps up its three-game homestand when it hosts Red Rock Central (2-13) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

TMB 85, MACCRAY 38

CLARA CITY — Alex Munson finished just two assists shy of a triple-double on Thursday night as the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team bested MACCRAY by a final score of 85-38.

In addition to dishing out eight assists with two turnovers, Munson also led TMB to a 37-28 rebounding advantage behind his 11 total rebounds. His 24 points on 10 of 19 shooting with three 3-pointers were also a team-high.

Trevor Smith also scored 21 points for TMB on efficient 9 of 13 shooting while Griffin Zick and Taylor Swenhaugen contributed 13 and 10 points respectively. Connor Lanoue also helped set up TMB’s offense with five assists on one turnover.

Zick and Swenhaugen led TMB on the defensive end with four and three assists respectively.

Ryker Davis grabbed five rebounds while Aiden Swenhaugen and Munson each blocked a shot.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (13-4) hosts Ortonville (3-11) on Monday for its next game at 7:30 p.m.

Lakeview 67, Ortonville 56

ORTONVILLE — Braylon Breyfogle scored a game-high 24 points on Thursday night as the Lakeview boys basketball team defeated Ortonville 67-56.

In addition to Breyfogle, Cody Helmke and Jackson Staab helped generate scoring inside with 12 and 8 points respectively.

Lakeview (8-8) now has the opportunity to get above .500 again when it hosts Central Minnesota Christian (10-3) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

No. 2 Dawson-Boyd 89, YME 44

DAWSON — Gunner Liebl and Brayson Boike each scored 21 points for the No. 2 Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team on Thursday night as the Blackjacks doubled up Yellow Medicine East for an 89-44 win.

Liebl shot 9 of 14 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers while Boike shot a perfect 9 of 9 on 2-point attempts and 1 of 3 from beyond the arc. Also contributing, Drew Hjelmeland and Jaxton Hastad scored 17 and 9 points.

Aside from his own scoring, Liebl dished out a team-high eight assists without a turnover while Carson Stratmoen distributed another four.

Boike grabbed nine rebounds while blocking a pair of shots. Liebl also registered a block and five steals.

For the sting, Jacob Peterson led the way with 18 points on 8 of 17 shooting while also dishing out five assists. Gunnar Fagen also dished out four assists and grabbed five rebounds. Leading scorer Wakinyan GreyCloud was unavailable for the Sting in the loss.

Yellow Medicine East (2-14) aims to halt its nine-game skid when it hosts Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Dawson-Boyd (11-3) will go on the road to face Canby (0-15) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

MCC 83, HLOF 46

OKABENA — Six players converted at least three field goal attempts for the Murray County Central boys basketball team on Thursday night as the Rebels pulled away early for an 83-46 win over Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda.

MCC led 34-29 at halftime but turned things up a notch after the break, outscoring the Coyotes by 32 points after the break.

The win marks two in a row for the Rebels after they beat Red Rock Central to end a three-game skid on Tuesday.

Max Miller’s red-hot shooting from beyond the arc led MCC on Thursday. He scored a game-high 23 points while shooting 7 of 9 from the field. He didn’t attempt a shot from inside the arc.

Also contributing, Gavin Gillette and Hudsen Schryvers scored 13 and 10 points respectively while Aidan Swenson, Carter Hanson and Tristan Behrends each contributed 7 or more points.

Gillette also dished out a game-high seven assists with no turnovers, and his seven rebounds trailed only Swenson’s eight.

On the defensive end, Gillette, Schryvers and Tayden Beerman each snatched three steals

Murray County Central (10-5) goes on the road to do battle with Edgerton (6-7) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

CMC 88, Canby 48

PRINSBURG — The Canby boys basketball team wasn’t able to work its way into the win column on Thursday night, falling 88-48 to Central Minnesota Christian.

Owen Peterson scored a team-high 10 points on 3 of 12 shooting while Jack Abrahamson scored 8 on the same shooting rates.

Will Abrahamson’s five rebounds were a team-high and his two steals tied Jack for a team-high.

Canby (0-15) continues its search for its first win when it goes on the road to take on Elkton-Lake Benton (S.D.) on Saturday at 7:45 p.m.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

TMB 69, RRC 38

LAMBERTON — After ending its 12-game skid with a win over Ortonville earlier in the week, the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team continued to pick up momentum on Thursday with a 68-38 win over Red Rock Central.

Marin Knott and Katelyn Ruppert put on a defensive masterclass for the Panthers, recording 10 steals and four blocks respectively for the Panthers.

On the offensive end, Melaina Ankrum led the team with 14 points while Ruppert added another 10 on 5 of 6 shooting from the field.

Tia Donkersloot put up another double-double for the Falcons in the loss, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Maia Scheffler dished out a game-high five assists with 5 points while Sydney Vogel scored another nine points for the Falcons.

Scheffler recorded four assists while Kysha Wani and Vogel each contributed another three.

Brianna Duscher dished out six assists for TMB.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (3-12) now faces a stretch of six consecutive opponents with winning records, four of whom are 11-6 or better. The Panthers’ gauntlet will begin tonight at 7:30 p.m. when they host No. 7 Central Minnesota Christian (15-2).

Red Rock Central (0-19) will continue to search for its first win when it goes on the road to take on Edgerton (8-9) tonight at 7:30 p.m.
