Coequyt and Hulzebos combine for 54 to lead Vikings past Trojans

MINNEOTA 78, ORTONVILLE 21
ORTONVILLE — Jaylyn Coequyt and Kiersyn Hulzebos combined for 54 points as the Minneota girls basketball team recorded its fourth straight win Monday night with a 78-21 victory over Ortonville.
Coequyt finished with 21 points to pair with Hulzebos’ 24, who also went 3 for 3 from the perimeter and had a game-high eight steals.
Leah Coequyt finished with a team-high eight rebounds, and Sarah Gruenes led with five assists.
Minneota overall shot 46% from the field, an impressive 67% from the 3-point line, and 57% at the free throw. It held Ortonville to 24-33-50% shooting marks.
The Vikings (9-3) will look to keep its momentum going when it hosts Central Minnesota Christian (9-2) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
MACCRAY 74, YME 47
CLARA CITY — The Yellow Medicine East girls basketball team fell short to MACCRAY 74-47 Monday evening. Alana Almich led with 21 points and went 4 for 9 from the perimeter.
Along with Almich, Bailey Mortenson followed with 10 points, and Klaira Shackelford tallied 9.
The Sting were down by just 7 points at half time, but were outshot 40-20 in the second half.
YME (5-6) will look to get back in the win column to even out its record when it travels to take on Wabasso (0-12) today at 7:30 p.m.
KMS 71, LAKEVIEW 58
KERKHOVEN — The Lakeview girls basketball team fell to the undefeated Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints 71-58 Monday evening, snapped a six-game winning streak.
Brynn Stensrud led with 16 points and six rebounds, followed by Brook Gunlogson’s 12 points and five rebounds. Megan Schwartz also grabbed six boards in the night.
KMS held a 1-point 26-25 edge going into halftime, however the Lakers were outshot 45-33 in the second half.
Lakeview shot 25% from the field and 23% from the 3. It moves to 9-3 on the season, and will look to bounce back when it next hosts Lac Qui Parle Valley on Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
