FAIRMONT — The Marshall girls hockey team put on a defensive masterclass on Tuesday night, limiting the Fairmont Cardinals to seven shots on goal as the Tigers claimed a 4-1 win to remain undefeated in Big South Conference play.

Abbey Foley and Brooklyn Mauch each registered a goal and an assist for Marshall. Foley scored the game’s first goal, assisted by Mia Wichmann and Kendal Beernaert, while Mauch scored Marshall’s third goal unassisted. Both Foley and Mauch were credited with an assist on Peyton DeMuth’s final goal of the game.

Foley’s performance brought her to a new career milestone, eclipsing 40 points and 30 assists for the first time in her career. With plenty of hockey left to play, Foley currently has 41 points and 30 assists on the season. She trails only Mauch’s 68 points and 31 assists.

Lily Stelter saved six of the seven shots that she faced in goal for the Tigers.

Mady Girard scored Marshall’s second goal of the game off an assist from Ava Kolander and Elsie Deutz.

Marshall (18-1-1, 9-0-1 BSC) will go on the road for a non-conference matchup against Pine City Area (10-8-0) on Friday at 5 p.m.

Starting at $4.38/week.
