Minneota picks up road victory over Eagles

Minneota 59, LQPV 44
MADISON — A strong rebounding effort helped the Minneota girls basketball team earn a 59-44 win over Lac Qui Parle Valley Tuesday evening on the road.
Although having a troubling shooting night and committing four more turnovers than the Eagles, Minneota outrebounded LQPV 35-25 to get more offensive opportunities. 25 of the boards were collected on the defensive end.
Sarah Gruenes led with 19 points, and made the team’s only 3-pointer of the night, along with four rebounds.
Jaylyn Coequyt followed with 16 points and three rebounds. Kiersyn grabbed a game-high five steals on the night as well.
Minneota overall shot 29% from the field, going 18 for 63. It went 1 for 12 from the perimeter and shot 73% from the free throw line.
LQPV was held to a 24% field goal outing, went 6 for 25 at the arc, and 53% at the line.
The Vikings improve to 11-6 on the season and will look to get another win at home on Friday when they host MACCRAY at 7:45 p.m.
RTR 68, MLAC 36
MT. LAKE — Avery Schreurs scored a game-high 27 points on Tuesday night to lead the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton girls basketball team to a 68-36 win over Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey.
Schreurs was efficient with her scoring, shooting 11 of 18 from the field and making each of her two attempts from beyond the arc. Her four assists were also a team-high and her six rebounds trailed only Dilyn Werkman’s eight and Makayla Hesse and Adalia Matzner’s seven each.
Hesse also scored 14 points for RTR, shooting 6 of 18 from the field and dishing out three assists.
Defensively, Ava Guida led the group on the perimeter with five steals while Matzner headed the interior defense with a pair of blocks. Schreurs and Paisley Thooft each also came away with four steals.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (9-8) will look to pick up its fourth consecutive win when it goes on the road to face off against Westbrook-Walnut Grove (11-5) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
MCC 62, RRC 34
SLAYTON — Forcing 23 turnovers and collecting 13 steals powered the Murray County Central girls basketball team past Red Rock Central 62-34 Tuesday night. The win snaps a three-game skid for the Rebels and marks 18 losses for the Falcons, who remain looking for its first season win.
MCC only committed six turnovers and allowed just one steal, and built up a 37-18 halftime lead.
For the Rebels, Thea Schneider led with 14 points to her three rebounds and three steals. Ava Deacon also collected a trio of steals.
Kate Blankenship followed with 13 points, while Taylor Larson tallied another 12.
For RRC, Tia Donkersloot finished with a team-high 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Kendra Schroeder followed with 7 points and another seven rebounds.
MCC (6-10) will look to earn another win on Friday when it travels to take on Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda (6-11) on Frday at 7:30 p.m.
RRC (0-18) will look ahead to Thursday when it hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (2-12) with a 6 p.m. tip off.
Canby 61, Dawson-Boyd 53
DAWSON — Brynn Kockelman’s 31 points helped the Canby girls basketball team come away with a 61-53 win over Dawson-Boyd Tuesday night.
Kockelman shot 47% from the field, making 9 of 19 attempts, and also made 11 of 13 free throw attempts.
Ella Thovson collected a team-high seven rebounds, while Kockelman, Izabelle Hulzebos and Ava Danielson each grabbed another five boards.
For the Blackjacks, Alivia Estling finished with a 17-point and 10-rebound double-double. Claire Stratmoen and Lindsey Lund each tallied another 14 points. Stratmoen, Kylar Hjelmeland and Alyssa Swedzinksi had five rebounds each.
Canby (9-8) will look to get its momentum going next when it hosts Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (16-0) on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd (4-12) will try to snap its seven-game losing streak at Lakeview (11-5) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
KMS 79, YME 38
KERKHOVEN –The Yellow Medicine East girls basketball team couldn’t match the undefeated Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints’ pace on Tuesday night, falling 79-38.
Bailey Sneller led all YME scorers with 13 points while Bayli Sneller contributed another 9.
YME falls to 8-8 with the loss and will look to get back above .500 when it goes on the road to take on Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (3-8) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
