HOLDINGFORD — The No. 5 Marshall wrestling team wasn’t able to pull out a win at the Holdingford duals on Saturday, dropping each of its three duals against Brainerd, Holdingford and Moudns View.

Holdingford, ranked No. 3 in Class A, defeated Marshall 37-17. Mounds View, ranked fourth in Class AAA, defeated the Tigers 42-25 and Brainerd (receiving votes in Class AAA) defeated Marshall

37-32.

In the closest dual of the night, Marshall’s result against Brainerd came down to the final matches. The Tigers led 26-19 when Brainerd surged ahead. Tyce Faber pinned Josh Kraft in 45 seconds in 172 and Shane Carlson pinned Eh Kwor in 32 seconds in 189 to make the score 31-26 in favor of Brainerd.

The Tigers needed a win in 215 to stay alive, but Ethan Kosloski pinned Aidan Mattison in 4:31 to clinch the dual for Brainerd.

Gavin Schaefer won by forfeit in 285 to close out the match but it was too little, too late for the Tigers.

Through the dual’s first eight matches, neither team claimed two consecutive victories. It wasn’t until Drew Chandler picked up a 12-4 major decision over Lukas Lind and Brayden Chandler pinned Nicodemus Young in 152 and 160 that Marshall built up a lead.

Keynan Coequyt also earned a pin against Brainerd while Landon Marthaler and Dawson DeCamp each won by technical fall.

Marshall also built up an early lead against Mounds View but fell short in the later weight classes. Through the first four matches, a pair of pins from Coequyt and Andrew Yang and a Colton Chandler decision gave Marshall a 15-5 lead. Another pin from Tyson Louwagie and a major decision for Drew Chandler brought Marshall’s advantage to 25-16, but Mounds View rallied late.

Mounds View won each of the final five weight classes, including three pins and a major decision, to hand Marshall the 42-25 loss.

Against Holdingford, Marshall was never able to get a handle. The teams traded victories for the first four matches, with Marshall gaining an 8-6 lead, but Holdingford took over from there with seven consecutive wins and 31 unanswered points.

A Schaefer 12-6 decision in 215 and a Brooks Hess win by forfeit gave Marshall some window dressing to close the match, but the Tigers fell 37-17.

Marshall (16-4) will head to New Ulm tonight at 5 p.m. for a dual against the Eagles.
