Stensrud, Schmidt combine for 30 in Lakers’ win

Lakeview 67, YME 47 

GRANITE FALLS — Brynn Stensrud and Anah Schmidt combined for 30 points to help the Lakeview girls basketball team defeat Yellow Medicine East 67-47 Thursday night on the road. 

Strensrud finished with 18 points, followed by Schmidts’ 12. Carmen Varpness also had a team-high 13 rebounds. 

Lakeview collected 46 total rebounds to help turn their defense into offense to seal the victory. 

The Lakers shot 34% from the field making 25 of 73 attempts. 

Lakeview (14-6) will look for its third straight win when it travels to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (3-14) today at 7:30 p.m. 

Pipestone Area 51, Minneota 44

PIPESTONE — The Minneota girls basketball team fell just short to Pipestone Area 51-44 Thursday evening on the road. Jaylyn Coequyt led the Vikings with another double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. 

Kiersyn Hulzebos followed with 11 points behind a trio of 3-pointers. 

Claire Rost also tallied six rebounds, while Eden Meagher led with three steals. 

The game was competitive throughout the night. The two teams nearly shot identically on all areas on the court, but the largest game difference was Minneota’s 25 turnovers to Pipestone’s 19. 

Minneota (12-9) will next look to travel to Yellow Medicine East (8-12) today at 7:30 p.m. 

WWG 75, RRC 44 

LAMBERTON — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team was able to hold on for a 75-44 victory over Red Rock Central Thursday night, earning its fourth straight win. 

The Falcons held on and put pressure on WWG through the first half, and the Chargers earned a 35-27 advantage by halftime. 

For RRC, Kendra Schroder led with 17 points. Tia Donkersloot had a team-high nine rebounds, while Maia Scheffler dished five assists. 

RRC (0-21) will next hit the road to take on Southwest Minnesota Christian (13-7) on Monday at 7:30 p.m., while WWG (14-5) will look for its fifth straight when it returns home to host Murray County Central (7-13) also at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
