Swanson scores 36 as Chargers top Edgerton

EDGERTON — Drew Swanson caught fire in the second half of the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team’s 69-60 win over Edgerton on Friday night. Swanson scored 20 of his 36 points on the night after the break to help the Chargers pull away after leading by just a point at halftime.

In addition to Swanson, Hudsen Jenniges contributed another 12 points with 15 rebounds to make a double-double. He also blocked three shots in the game.

Jackson Jenniges knocked down three 3-pointers in the second half to account for all of his 9 points in the game.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove (8-2) has the opportunity to extend its win streak to five games when it heads to Hills to take on the Hills-beaver Creek Patriots (4-0) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

MCC 67, A/E 28

ADRIAN — Defensive intensity paved the way for the Murray County Central boys basketball team to coast to a 67-28 win over Adrian-Ellsworth on Friday night.

Gavin Gillette set the tone for the Rebels on the night with six steals while Cayden Veldhuisen added another three. As a team, MCC finished with 14 steals. Aidan Swenson also logged a block for the Rebels.

On the offensive end, the Rebels spread the ball out fairly evenly. No players finished with more than 12 points but 10 players hit at least one field goal. Gillette and Dylan Kluis each scored 12 points, on 15 shots for Gillette and 7 shots for Kluis, while Swenson added another 11 points. Hudson Schryvers was the team’s primary facilitator with five assists while Kluis chipped in with another three.

MCC built a 38-31 advantage on the glass, led by seven rebounds from Gillette.

Murray County Central (7-2) will look to extend its win streak to five games when it hosts Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (2-6) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Wabasso 71, Lester Prairie 66

WABASSO — The Wabasso boys basketball team team is continuing its good start to the season with a 71-66 win over Lester Prairie Friday evening. The Rabbits have now won five of their last six games. 

Calvin Hanna finished with a team-high 20 points behind five 3-pointers. 

Tavyn Larson followed with 12 points, Caden Frericks added 11 and Jack Burns followed with 10 points. 

Wabasso (7-3) will look to keep its hot streak going when it takes on Renville County West (8-1) in Renville on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

MLAC 75, RRC 43

MOUNTAIN LAKE — The Red Rock Central boys basketball team couldn’t work its way back into the win column on Friday night, falling 75-43 against Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey.

The Falcons trailed 38-25 at halftime before falling into a deeper hole as the game progressed. Abe Stavnes led the team with 17 points while Austin Imker added another 11 points with six rebounds.

Red Rock Central (1-7) returns to Lamberton to host Adrian-Ellsworth (2-6) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

RCW 79, Canby 52

RENVILLE — Entering Friday’s game against Renville County West, the Canby boys basketball team was yet to come within 14 points of a victory this season. That did not change this time around, as the Lancers fell 79-52 to the Jaguars.

Cayden Anderson finished the night with a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double for Canby while Owen Peterson scored a team-high 16 points with eight rebounds. Jack Abrahamson also recorded 9 points and seven rebounds.

Canby (0-9) will continue its search for its first win of the season when it travels to Tyler for a matchup with Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (4-2) on Monday at 7:15 p.m.

HBC 62, RTR 52

HILLS — In a rematch of last year’s 3A South subsection championship, the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team went on the road to take on Hills-Beaver Creek on Friday night. While the Knights won the teams’ last matchup en route to their third consecutive state tournament berth, the Patriots had the last laugh this time around, claiming a 62-52 win to remain undefeated.
