Tigers dominate puck in win over Redwood Valley

REDWOOD FALLS — The offense of the Marshall boys hockey team was swarming all over the Redwood Valley goal on Tuesday night. The Tigers outshot the Cardinals 44-23 in the game and pulled out a 4-2 road win as a result.

McCoy Guenther earned the win in goal for Marshall, saving 21 of the 23 shots he faced.

Tyler Welsh, Carson Kopitski, Jacob Johnson and Owen Renslow each recorded a goal and an assist for the Marshall Tigers. Johnson scored the game’s first goal in the first period off an assist from Renslow and Welsh, and Renslow scored the game’s game-winning goal in the second period off an assist from Kopitski after Redwood Valley had tied it up.

Welsh scored his goal off Kopitski’s second assist of the day, with Luke Ehlers also credited with an assist on the score, while Kopitski’s goal came courtesy of Johnson’s first assist and Renslow’s second.

Redwood Valley scored the first goal of the second period to tie the game up and cut into Marshall’s deficit with another goal in the third period. Yet, that was the last goal of the game as Marshall held on for the win.

The win brings Marshall above .500 in Big South Conference play at 6-5-0 and improves the team’s record to 8-11-0 overall. The Tigers will look to continue to climb the conference standings when they go on the road to face Fairmont (0-13-0, 0-10-0 BSC) on Monday at 7 p.m.
